WHO WE ARE

Our Mission:
The Scott-Milliner Outreach Center is committed to empowering, educating, and serving individuals, families, and communities. We promote positive values and create constructive alternatives that nurture the whole person.

Our Vision:
Our vision is to be a leading institution in community revitalization and social development. Leveraging cutting-edge technology and top-tier financial tools, we aim to provide those we serve with sustainable economic opportunities in a safe and healthy environment that champions Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Justice.

Our Origins:
Established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Scott-Milliner Outreach Center was founded to address the severe economic distress affecting the communities of Western Pennsylvania—a crisis precipitated by significant downturns in the manufacturing industry. Initially self-funded, our organization has grown with support from church members, community partners, local foundations, and corporate sponsors.

Our Programs:
We have developed a wide array of programs aimed at tackling food insecurity, offering nutritional support to seniors, supporting the underserved, and assisting the unemployed and underemployed. Our initiatives extend into technology-driven employment, drug and alcohol counseling, opioid crisis intervention, violence prevention, and early childhood education and development. We also focus on health and wellness education, STEM and STEAM programs, after-school activities, resilience and self-improvement, financial literacy, home ownership, and entrepreneurship aimed at wealth accumulation.

Our Impact:
The Scott-Milliner Outreach serves as a model in addressing the social and emotional development of youth and adults alike. We are dedicated to expanding high-quality, innovative initiatives in workforce development, early intervention, and community-based programs. Our comprehensive approach includes Workforce Development, Program Development, Employment Resources, Youth Workforce Resources, Finance, Facilities, Administration, and Strategic Planning. We measure our success through detailed metrics that reflect income projections, community engagement, PPE resources, and consulting within our extensive network of collaborators.

Flagship Initiatives:
Among our innovative programs is the flagship drone training initiative in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which epitomizes our commitment to preparing community members for the new economy through cutting-edge technology.

By continuously evolving and expanding our programs, we strive to implement meaningful change and foster development in every area that impacts the success of our community members.

WHAT WE DO

Serving & Developing Communities:

In conjunction with our partners Family Life Center and Black Equity Coalition (BEC) as well as numerous non profit organizations we are working to develop our Youth and current community into the future. The lack of information dissemination and resources involving employment spread have lead to detrimental inequities of our black youth and we must stand up for them. The Scott Milliner outreach strives to bring workforce, and employment resources to the youth of our communities.

Workforce Development Initiatives:

At the Scott-Milliner Outreach Center, our commitment to workforce development is foundational to our mission of empowering the community. We recognize the importance of equipping individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving job market, especially in technology-driven industries. Our diverse set of programs is meticulously designed to address the needs of various community members, from young adults just starting their careers to older individuals seeking new opportunities in the digital age.

Our flagship drone training program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a prime example of our innovative approach, preparing participants for emerging tech roles in aviation and aerial surveillance. This initiative not only provides technical skills but also opens doors to new career paths in a high-demand sector.

Additionally, our technology jobs training program focuses on developing competencies in digital literacy, coding, and software development, which are critical for securing employment in today’s tech-centric job market. We complement these with comprehensive employment resources that include job placement services, resume writing workshops, and interview preparation, all aimed at enhancing job readiness.

For the youth, our workforce resources extend to internships and mentoring, providing a practical introduction to the workplace through hands-on experience and professional guidance. This early exposure is crucial for developing a skilled and adaptable workforce ready to meet the challenges of the future.

Strategically, we collaborate with local businesses and corporate partners to ensure that our training programs align with current job market needs, thereby maximizing the effectiveness of our efforts and the employability of our participants. By fostering a well-prepared workforce, we contribute significantly to the economic vitality and resilience of our community.

Donation Drives and Giveaways:

The Scott-Milliner Outreach Center deeply values community support and solidarity, particularly manifested through our extensive donation drives and giveaways. These initiatives are vital in meeting the immediate needs of our community members while fostering a culture of generosity and mutual assistance.

Our food drives are a cornerstone of our efforts, addressing food insecurity among the most vulnerable populations. With regular drives throughout the year and additional collections during economic downturns, we ensure that families facing hardship can access nutritious food when they need it most. These drives are especially critical during the holiday seasons, a time that can be financially straining for many.

The holiday season also sees us conducting special giveaways that bring warmth and joy to families. These events often include distributing toys, warm clothing, and household essentials, which are particularly appreciated during the cold Pennsylvania winters. Such gestures not only provide practical help but also bring the community together in a spirit of giving.

Responding to emergencies is another crucial aspect of our work. Whether it's a natural disaster, a health crisis like a pandemic, or any other immediate crisis, we quickly mobilize to provide essential resources such as personal protective equipment, hygiene kits, and emergency food supplies.

Our efforts are amplified through collaborations with local churches, foundations, and businesses, enabling us to leverage additional resources and reach. Each partnership enhances our capacity to conduct these drives and ensures that we can continue to support our community effectively. Through these dedicated donation drives and giveaways, we not only address immediate and seasonal needs but also strengthen the bonds within our community, building a foundation of resilience and shared prosperity.
